Contaminated Land

Assessment and Remediation

Our specialists oversee your contaminated land project from start to finish to the latest standards such as BS10175:2011 and EA Guiding Principals for Land Contamination (GPLC 2010). They provide a full range of services from a preliminary contamination risk assessment / desk study for an infill development planning application, to land quality characterisation and remediation of large industrial areas. They plan the works, manage the project and any contracts, supervise the work as it is carried out and then liaise with regulatory authorities to discharge of related planning conditions.

Our expertise covers tried and tested remedial methods as well as contemporary and innovative remedial designs.

We carry out all types of geo-environmental projects, regardless of whether we are working on behalf of private clients, investors or public-sector.

PGE offers specialist remediation services from decomissioning and removal of a single buried fuel tank to in-situ groundwater remedial technologies. These projects are carried out in co-operation with Fox (Owmby) Limited as the remediation and civils contractor and PGE as the technical consultant.

Matt Paddock; a PGE Director, was a finalist in 2010 for a Ground Engineering Magazine award; a very prestigious industry award from the Institution of Civil Engineers, for a novel diesel soil and groundwater remediation project beneath existing buildings.

Geotechnical

It is important that a foundation design parameter assessment is carried out even for the smallest of developments. A Ground Investigation to derive foundation design parameters is a requirement of development insurers such as NHBC and Zurich and some Local Authorities Building Control. This becomes even more important if the development is located on clay where there is a potential of volume change within the founding soils leading to future subsidence issues.

At PGE we offer a full range of cost effective geotechnical services to the current standards including Eurocode 7, from the simplest confirmation of foundation invert level suitability to slope stability assessment for high risk situations such as highways. We carry these out for a range of Clients from private self builder, structural engineers, architects to landfill operators.

In response to the increasing popularity of basement extensions on existing dwellings in the countries large cities we at PGE have designed and tested cost effective methods to gather the required data to derive the complex basement design parameters required by the project structural engineer for their design.

Site Investigation

At PGE we are also offer Site Investigation services on a Factual data only basis to BS 5930:2015 and the associated various Eurocodes.

The advantage of this is that the Client can have their engineer or archictect carry out the interpretation of the data knowing that the siteworks and site data collection would have been carried out by a suitably highly experienced and qualified Engineer.

PGE offer all forms of drilling and sample recovery through a set of approved suppliers.

PGE staff are also PTS trained and experienced for railway work and CSCS trained to supervisor level for site safety.

CBR and Plate Load Testing

PGE offers in-situ CBR determination to BS1377-Part9:1990 using a 4x4 mounted rig or using available site plant as kentledge.

We can also carry out Plate Load testing using a digital logging system making the testing far more quick and accurate than the outdated manual analogue system.

Landfill

Monitoring and Permitting

We offer services to landfill operators and owners ranging from routine environmental monitoring (landfill gas, leachate, groundwater, surface water and noise) to permit application modelling and assessment such as Hydrogeological Risk Assessment (HRA) and Gas Risk Assessment (GRA) employing industry standard specialist software including LandSim and GasSim.
